PVFCU Celebrates Its Grand Reopening

Prairie View Federal Credit Union recently unveiled its newly remodeled financial center located on 104 University Drive, Prairie View, TX 77445. The celebration kicked off with an evening event, bringing together previous board members and other leaders associated with the credit union. The event served as a tribute to the influential figures who played pivotal roles in shaping PVFCU and provided them with a first glimpse of the facility's transformation.

As the celebration continued throughout the week, local community and business leaders joined the Waller Area Chamber of Commerce to commemorate this new chapter in the credit union’s story. The ceremonial ribbon cutting marked the beginning of a new transformation that ensures the credit union is capable of enriching and advancing the Prairie View community for many more decades to come.

Established in 1937 during the final years of the Great Depression, Prairie View FCU boasts of a rich history that predates the Civil Rights Act by twenty-seven years. The journey began with a commitment from the sixteen (16) credit union founders to serve the financial needs of employees from the first state-supported college in Texas for African Americans. Among the credit union founders were W.R. Banks, who at the time of PVFCU’s founding was currently serving as the seventh principal administrator of the college (before the college started naming “Presidents”), and Dr. E.B. Evans, who would become the eighth principal and the first to be inaugurated as the “President” of Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Prairie View A&M University). These sixteen founders would successfully organize PVFCU to become a crucial pillar of support within the community.

Today, Prairie View FCU remains dedicated to the founders’ mission. In 2022, Prairie View FCU merged into a partnership with Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union. Within this partnership, both credit unions remain committed to preserving and continuing to build on Prairie View FCU’s 85-year legacy and community ties. This includes a dedicated “Legacy Wall” displaying the names of those who helped write the PVFCU story. The purpose of this strategic partnership is to provide greater financial stability for Prairie View FCU and modernize the credit union in a way necessary for PVFCU to maintain relevance in a quickly evolving financial industry.

With the newly modernized facility enhancements, PVFCU members will continue to enjoy a high level of hospitality service, but now with a more convenient and secure experience. Even the drive-thru has been upgraded with an Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) that allows members to experience face-to-face support with representatives during business hours, as well as the ability to make deposits or transfer funds through the self-serve option at any hour. In addition, the Prairie View community now has access to a wider array of financial products, services, and conveniences. Some of these new benefits include nationwide ATMs and shared branching locations, more competitive loan and deposit rates, 24/7 money management tools through modernized online and mobile banking, the ability to remotely deposit checks with the use of a mobile device camera, credit monitoring, contactless and chip-enabled debit cards, and more.

We encourage you to come see what’s new at Prairie View FCU!  As a division of Cy-Fair FCU, anyone who lives or works either in Prairie View, Waller County, or Harris County may now join and enjoy the benefits of both financial institutions.
