BE VIGILANT AGAINST FRAUD

In 2017, Equifax experienced a data breach that exposed the personal data of 147 million people. With that amount of data, an attempt to use your information for fraudulent purposes may not occur until years later.  For this reason, it is important to remain vigilant and not let down your guard.

A common trick of thieves holding personal information, such as that gained from the Equifax breach, is to convince you that they are calling from your financial institution or credit card company by sharing detailed, personal data that you would assume only a company you do business with would have. Once the thief gains your trust, they will attempt to get you to reveal information that will provide them with what they need to access your account or use your credit card. Additionally, be aware that many have the technology to mask the number they are calling from and make it appear as though the call is coming from the company they claim to be with.

Recently, we had a couple CFFCU members report experiencing fraud attempts like those described above.  It is important for us to remind you that Cy-Fair FCU will never call and ask you to share sensitive data related to your accounts, such as pin numbers, 3-digit card verification values, or passwords.  If you ever receive a call requesting such data related to your accounts, please hang up and call us immediately.
